The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sree Chaitanya College of engineering was established in the year 2009 with an initial intake of 60 students and an additional section of 60 is added in 2011. The department also offers PG program with specialization in Design for Manufacturing and Thermal Engineering. The department continuously strives to achieve excellence in education, research as well as consultancy work with service to the society. The department has excellent infrastructure facilities with modern labs and workshop. The department has dynamic and well experienced faculty and are supported by dedicated technical staff. Majority of the faculty hold post graduate degrees in their areas of specialization from reputed institutes and have passion for teaching and motivation for research. .

- Excellent Fluid mechanics and Hydraulics lab with integrated Kaplan and Francis turbine, computerized setups and Open channel flow setup not even found in University colleges.

- Machine tools lab – 1 crore rupees worth equipment.

Departmental Events:
(a) Technical events/programs conducted in Last 2 years:
- SHODHA – A National Level Student’s Technical Festival
SHODHA is a National level student’s technical fest conducted every two years, where budding engineers from across the country come to share their knowledge and explore the possibilities of understanding the contemporary technical advancements.
The industrial visit provides students with an opportunity to learn practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices. Moreover, it gives exposure from an academic point of view. Our students are visiting the following industries every year.
- Bangalore:HMT, Ashok Leyland
- Hyderabad:HMT,PragaTools, BHEL
- Vishakhapatnam: Vizag Steel, BHPV
- Ramagundam:NTPC,Kesoram Cements
Workshops:
Mechanical Engineering department conducts at least 2 workshops every year to impart and share knowledge on latest technological developments
Recently conducted workshops are:
- Robotics Work Shop and National Robotics championship, -- conducted in association with IIT Bombay and ARK Technologies.
- National level workshop on “Vehicle Dynamics” – conducted in association with Indian Society for New Era Engineers – ISNEE.
Others:
- Students designed a kart (small car) and participated in National Go-Kart Championship held at Kolhapur.
- Technical quiz conducted by students on occasion of Engineers day
- Guest Lectures by experts from DMRL Hyd, NIT Warangal.
- Innovative Projects by students – Wind Car, Solar tricycle, Bomb collecting robot, Solar pump.
(b) Sports and Cultural Events:
- Mechanical students are Winners of 1st Students Cricket League – 2013
- Mechanical students are Runners-up of Volleyball – 2013
- Teacher’s day and Engineer’s day celebrated by students enthusiastically.
- Fresher’s and Farewell party for incoming and outgoing students.
Students Achievements:
- 5 students admitted in US universities (one in University of Rochester ranked 27)
- 20 students joined in MTech
- 10 students got placed in India and 10 students got placed in Gulf countries.
- 10 students admitted to Germany, UK, and Australian universities for Masters Programs.
